With a wait staff of 25 servers, the majority of whom have been with the restaurant for half a decade, Max Downtown remains at the top of the service ladder. “We want our service to be refined and perfect,” says owner Steven Abrams. “We dont reach perfection, but we strive for perfection. Perfect service is uncompromising, attentive, and non-intrusive.” The process starts not with training (of which there is plenty) but with hiring, starting with candidates who have exhibited altruistic tendencies in their daily lives. From there, part of teaching their staff to be attentive, Abrams says, is instilling the ability to read your guests, whether they want more or less attention, and thats what Abrams feels Max Downtown does best. “We also never say 'no,'” says Abrams. “We do whatever we can to say yes to the guest.”
