A new ban on recreational drugs kicks off in Shelbyville Friday. The city's common council passed an ordinance allowing fines for people selling or possessing spice and bath salts.
For those selling the drugs it's a $1,000 fine for the first offense and $2,500 after that. If you're in possession of spice or bath salts you could face $500 the first time and $1,000 for additional offenses.
The city won't be able to take any criminal action until Indiana passes tougher legislation against the drugs.
