A construction worker was sent to the hospital after a construction site accident Friday.
Officials were called to the new Wishard Hospital construction site in the 1400 block of West Michigan Street just before 3 p.m.
An elevator mechanic was climbing from the first floor level down into the bottom of an elevator shaft when he slipped. The worker fell about six feet and landed on top of a coworker.
The mechanic was able to climb out of the shaft using a ladder, but emergency personnel had to call in the rope rescue team to get the other worker out. That worker was transported to the hospital complaining of rib and back pain.
