We are looking at major temperature variations this morning around the state. Ketchikan reported 46 degrees at the same time that McGrath was at 54 below zero. That is a 100 degree temperature change from SE Alaska into the Western Interior.
The synoptic pattern has changed very little. Lows continue to track over the eastern Gulf with a strong high pressure ridge over Siberia blocking these storms from moving into the Interior and bringing warmer air. Thus, another very cold day is in store for all of the same areas for the Interior and West that experienced it yesterday.
A strong storm system is moving over the eastern Gulf of Alaska northward toward the northern Panhandle. This storm will exit into Canada later today and weaken. Winds will ease up in the Panhandle and heavy rain and snow will taper to showers by afternoon.
Southcentral will be partly cloudy and cold. Highs from 10 below to 5 above and light breezes near the Inlet will make for yet another "bundle-'um" type of day.
A weak low pressure area is slowly moving toward Bristol Bay. It will bring temperatures up some 10 degrees into tomorrow with the threat of snow developing by late day in Anchorage and the Valley. 2 to 4 inches with higher amounts are likely by Friday afternoon.
