A 972 mb low is centered near Nunivak Island.  This intense low is bringing rain, snow, and very strong winds to SW AK.  Warmer air behind a warm front is moving north into Bristol Bay changing snow to rain.  All rain is expected today for the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak with highs into the 40s and low 50s.  Precipitation will remain in the form of snow north of Bethel despite temperatures warming into the 30s.

All of Southwest is under a warning or advisory of one kind or another, including a Blizzard Warning.  Enter your city or zip code on the weather module on the weather page at ktuu.com/weather for a full rundown of warnings or advisories for your area.

This mess is headed for Southcentral.  Rain will develop first in Homer then spread over the rest of the region throughout the day.  Snow will change to rain in Kachemak Bay and PWS later this afternoon.  In the Susitna, west of the Parks Highway, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for heavy snow later today into tonight.  Up to 10 inches is likely.  Highs will be in the 30s and 40s PWS with 30s elsewhere.

Winds will become very strong, as well.  Gusts may exceed 75 mph locally through Turnagain Arm and the Upper Hillside of Anchorage through tonight.  A High Wind Warning is in effect until 7 am tomorrow.  Light precipitation is likely today along Cook Inlet until the winds simmer down tomorrow, at which point snow may accumulate to a couple inches in the Bowl.

Quieter weather is in store heading into the weekend.
