A large upper level ridge has settled over the state providing sunshine and warming temperatures to all of the Interior and Southcentral regions. Highs will range from the upper 60s around Fairbanks to the 50s around PWS and coastal Kenai Peninsula.
Behind the ridge is a weak upper trough and surface disturbance. It is nearly stationary over the Aleutian Islands. A front is swinging through the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island this morning. Along and behind it, rain showers have increased. Rain is likely from Bristol Bay to Kodiak west into the Aleutians. As a result, highs will stay in the 40s for most areas.
An area of low pressure over Canada is wrapping clouds and isolated showers in the SE Panhandle, in particular, the Inner Channels. Clouds will continue to decrease throughout the day with highs into the 50s.
The northwest Arctic Coast will see freezing rain and rain showers today. Wainwright and Point Lay are under a Freezing Rain Advisory until 6 am tomorrow. Highs will be in the 30s. Dry weather is expected for the rest of the North Slope.
Bright sunshine and highs in the upper 50s and 60s are in store for Anchorage and the Valley today and tomorrow before clouds begin to increase somewhat for the weekend. Temperatures will remain warm through next week.
