Low pressure is centered over the northern Gulf. Showers ahead of it in Southeast are wrapping around the low into Southcentral Tuesday morning. The threat for snow, some of it moderate to heavy, will continue Tuesday for Prince William Sound and areas of the northern Panhandle.

Otherwise, light showers will persist along Cook Inlet with breezy conditions and cold temperatures. An additional couple inches are possible from the Mat-Su through Anchorage and south toward Kenai and Soldotna.

The snow is very light, low-density snow and is easily suspended by traffic. Thus, visibilities may be reduced to near whiteout on roadways. Use extreme caution while commuting to work.

The rest of the state will be mainly dry. Clouds and weak low-level moisture are helping raise temperatures over the northern Interior, from Bettles to Fort Yukon. It was 20 to 30 degrees warmer Tuesday morning than it has been as of late.

Very cold winds from the north will reduce wind chills to 40 below around Bristol Bay and the lower Kuskokwim. Cold air is spilling all the way into the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island ahead of an upper level ridge. This is the first major cold snap for the Southwest this season.

Much quieter weather still looks to be with us through the weekend for the bulk of the state. It will, however, remain unseasonably cold.
