A low pressure system is nearly stationary over the Bering. Moisture wrapping around the low is keeping snow in the forecast for the Arctic Slope, the Interior, and the West, with rain and snow and milder temperatures for Southwest Alaska. The heaviest precipitation will be found in the Panhandle along an upper jet that will continue to draw rich sub-tropical moisture into the area. Rain will be heavy at times in Yakutat and snow and rain will take turns in Juneau.
Showers swinging through Southwest today will try to hold together as they approach Southcentral. Thus, snow is still in the forecast for Anchorage and surrounding areas through tomorrow morning. A couple inches are possible.
The Bering low will weaken and move north. It will be replaced by a ridge of high pressure. Partial sunshine is in store for Southcentral Friday afternoon into Saturday morning before clouds and showers begin to increase again.
A significant storm system is headed for the West Coast this weekend. Blizzard conditions could exist once again beginning Friday night. We will keep you posted.
