There is little change in store for the state today. Very cold temperatures and wind chills will plague all of the west, north and Interior. Wind chills around Bristol Bay will approach 45 below; along the Arctic Slope and Brooks range, as low as 85 below. Wind Chill advisories and warnings abound. Cover all exposed skin and stay out of the wind as much as possible.
Snow was heavy at times overnight in the Panhandle and showers will continue today with another 3 to 10 inches through tonight. Rain may still mix in with snow over the southern portion of the Panhandle. Winds will gusts to 30 mph, as well. Winter Storm warnings are in effect for most of the northern half of SE.
Southcentral is the battleground between the bitter cold and stronger winds to our west and north, and the heavier snow and warmer temps to our south and east. Light snow is likely today and tonight over the Inlet. Up to 4 inches is possible for Kachemak Bay, with far lighter totals elsewhere. Anchorage will see an inch or two through tomorrow. Highs will remain in the single digits.
Although not as brilliant as last night, we'll likely get another round of the Aurora going for parts of the state tonight. Due to the lack of cloud cover, the west and the Interior stand the best chance of seeing it.
