( Getty Images / July 28, 2012 ) Qualifying swimming heats kicked off Day 1 of the Summer Olympics and Michael Phelps, the swimming star of Beijing, had a bit of a wake up call -- he barely qualified for the finals of the 400 IM. Traditionally, athletes don't go 100% in a qualifying heat. They want to leave some gas in the tank for the finals. But Phelps ended up finishing 8th (the last spot) and only by .07 of a second. Yikes. |
