ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A 5-year-old girl had to be medevaced from a cruise ship traveling in the Gastineau Channel outside of Juneau on Sunday afternoon after she reported abdominal pain.

A 45-foot-long Coast Guard met the 1,138-foot cruise liner named “Ovation of the Sea” and transported the girl to the South Douglass boat ramp in Juneau, where she was passed on to local emergency medical services.

In a press release from the Coast Guard, Petty Officer 1st class Mike Klosterman, a Station Juneau command duty officer, thanked the cruise line and the emergency medical personnel from Juneau for their prompt responses to the emergency.

“This allowed us to provide a quick launch and recovery to assist this young girl and her family," he said in his statement.

The request for help was first made at 2:09 p.m. on Sunday.
