ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Duane’s Antique Market on 76th Ave. says a man broke into the store early Saturday morning and made off with around $50,000 worth of Alaska Native art and carvings.
Andreas Mosesian, a spokesperson for the store, said the burglary was caught on camera and the man's face was clearly visible.
The man is described by Mosesian as older, with a beard and of slight build. MJ Thim, a spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department said the footage is being reviewed by investigators. Thim provided additional details on the suspect to KTUU. He said the suspect appeared to be wearing a black trench coat, dark blue overalls, a white shirt and brown boots.
Mosesian says the man was caught on camera driving past the store a number of times around 5:30 a.m. before hurling a rock through the window and clambering inside.
The carvings that were stolen were kept locked in a case inside a separate room, says Mosesian.
Thim said the suspect has not been taken into custody and asked anyone with information that may lead to an arrest to contact Crime Stoppers at (907) 561-7867 or APD Dispatch at 311.
