Anchorage Updated 3:15 pm Wednesday

Messy winter weather spreads over Southcentral Wednesday night and Thursday.

Commuters should be aware that freezing rain is expected to move into the Anchorage area tonight. Overnight, with temperatures dropping below freezing, and snow (1-2") could accumulate as well.

This is a large system that will bring in rain, snow, freezing rain and ice accumulations could get up to a quarter-inch.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Anchor Point-north to Anchorage, Palmer and Wasilla and continuing to Talkeetna. Communities will likely see freezing rain and snow. Talkeetna is forecast to see 3-6 in. of snow. Snow is expected overnight and early Thursday.

Any one of these conditions calls for caution on roadways and even walkways. The combination of one or more of the wintry mix will probably lead to some slipping and sliding Thursday morning.
