KETCHIKAN, Alaska (KTUU) - The newly proposed Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) May - September 2018 schedule is now available for public review.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities released the tentative schedule on Oct. 30. And the department says people have until mid-November to review it and make comments.
"The draft schedule is based on the expected funding level for fiscal year 2019 and established community service needs and events," writes the ADOT&PF.
Compared to last year's services, ADOT&PF calls the draft schedule "similar." The department also ensures that the summer service will maintain "vessel regulatory and safety standards."

The last day to submit written comments is on Nov. 10.
To submit comments, DOT&PF instructs people to send them via e-mail or fax.
- E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
- Fax: (907) 228-6874
Regarding comments, the department states, "AMHS is also interested in knowing about any need for special events scheduling and other requests that organizers or communities may have."
For each special event, DOT&PF instructs people to provide the event name, dates, location and necessary arrival and departure times.
Then on Nov. 16, DOT&PF will hold two teleconferences to hear the comments and consider adjustments. At 10 a.m., one teleconference will be held for the Southeast schedules. And at 1:30 p.m., one teleconference will be held for the Southwest and Southcentral schedules. To participate in either teleconference, the toll-free number is 1-515-604-9000. And the access code is 279613.
To attend the Ketchikan conference in person, visit the Alaska Marine Highway Central Office, at 7559 North Tongass Highway.
