AFD: Burn ban in the Municipality of Anchorage still in effect

Bay, Gulf, Calhoun, and Jackson Counties are all under a burn ban until further notice. (MGN)

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Anchorage Fire Department is reminding people the burn ban in the Municipality of Anchorage is still in effect.

Barbecue grills (electric, gas, and charcoal) are allowed, enclosed pellet grills (Traeger, etc.) are allowed, but portable outdoor fireplaces may not be used.

AFD is also reminding people the following are not allowed at any time.

  • The use of burn barrels or burning trash, garbage, construction materials, or other non-cured firewood is prohibited.
  • Burning of yard debris including leaves, grass and tree limbs is prohibited. All vegetation waste and woody debris must be disposed of through curbside trash removal, the Solid Waste Service's transfer site, primary landfill, or the wood lot.
  • Burn permits are no longer available for burning spruce bark beetle slash. Please use the wood lots, when available, for disposing of woody debris. Contact AFD's Forester if you have questions at 267-4902.

The Municipality of Anchorage no longer issues Burn Permits.
