APD: One man dead, a woman hurt following a SWAT situation, Atkinson Drive has reopened

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Update
The Anchorage Police Department says one man is dead, a woman hurt following a SWAT situation.

APD says officers found an adult male and an adult female in a room inside the home. The adult male was found dead with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The adult female was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition with a gunshot wound to the lower body.

SWAT has cleared the area.

Atkinson Drive has reopened.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit have taken over the investigation.

The identity of the adult male isn't being released at this time pending next of kin notification procedures.

APD says there is a SWAT Situation near Debarr Road and Boniface Parkway.

Police say officers with the Patrol Division responded to a residence on the 1800 block of Atkinson Drive in Nunaka Valley for a welfare check after reports of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, Officers were able to hear a verbal altercation taking place inside the residence followed by shots fired. It is currently unknown how many individuals are in the residence as the situation is developing. No officers were injured. The condition of persons involved is unknown.

SWAT officers have responded to the scene. Atkinson Drive is shut down by Link Court and Kepner Drive. Please seek alternate routes and avoid the area.

Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may include a variety of tools and tactics used to apprehend him. This could include the possibility of deploying gas; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.
