APD identifies two officers who shot at man wielding crossbow

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage Police have named the two officers who shot at and injured a man armed with a crossbow in South Anchorage Sunday morning.

Police say Officer Theodore Freitag and Officer Kylie Baker fired their weapons in the incident.

Officer Freitag has been with the Anchorage Police Department since 2008. Officer Baker has been with the Department since 2017.

Sunday morning, police were called to the area of Huffman and the Old Seward Highway where 35-year-old Dustin Folse was reportedly pointing a crossbow at passing traffic and "tracking" cars. He was dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask.

When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses reported seeing Folse raise the crossbow toward an officer. Officers fired at Folse and he fell, before appearing to raise the weapon again. He then ran away and was caught by officers.

In court Monday, Folse's bail was set at $40,000. He said he was under someone else's control during the incident, despite a public defender's advice in the courtroom to not speak with anyone about the incident until he'd consulted a lawyer.
