UPDATE: Suspect who fled in handcuffs captured Wednesday morning

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - UPDATE Wednesday 10:55 a.m.:

Police arrested Kuukpik Long outside a home in Anchorage Wednesday morning. He was no longer wearing handcuffs.

Police found him hiding in a shed outside a home on N. Hoyt Street. He was taken into custody at 9:57, police say.

A large police presence is in the area of Anchorage Native Medical Center as police look for a theft suspect that ran from them as they took him to get checked out at the hospital.

Police say 36-year-old Kuukpik Long was arrested at the Penland Park trailer court after 11:00 a.m. for a felony warrant for skipping court on charges of Forgery, Theft and attempted theft. As officers handcuffed him, Long told them he was injured.

Officers say they took Long to ANMC to get medically cleared, and while walking back to the patrol car, Long, who had been walking with a limp, pulled free from the officer and ran away.

Police say Long is wearing handcuffs, long brown pants and a white and black sport coat. He has a mustache and very closely-cropped hair.

Police say Long is 5-foot-8, 165 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police say to call 911 if you see him.
