APD receives a grant to enforce traffic laws on the Glenn Highway

ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) - The Anchorage Police Department is reminding drivers, the speed limit on the Glenn Highway is 65 mph.

APD says the State of Alaska Department of Transportation did a study on Glenn Highway driving habits. One of the findings was that the average speed of drivers is 74 mph – well above the legal 65 mph. As a result, the Alaska Highway Safety Office gave APD a grant to enforce traffic laws on the Glenn.

In a press release, APD says 50,000 vehicles travel the Glenn Highway each way each day. They add in the first eight days of July, officers made 245 traffic stops which resulted in 287 traffic citations. 212 of those tickets were for speeding.

APD says to ease off that gas pedal and keep it to 65 mph on the Glenn.
