ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Update, 8:57 p.m.: Derek Martin, 9, who went missing for a time on Sunday, has been found safe and sound.
The Anchorage Police Dept. said in a Nixle alert that it appreciates the community's help in finding the child.
Original post: Anchorage police are asking for help in finding a missing boy who left his residence and has not returned.
APD wrote in a Nixle release Sunday evening that Derek Martin, 9, is a "high-functioning autistic male juvenile who ran away from home."
Martin has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen near 43rd Ave. and Checkmate Dr. He was wearing a black hoodie with leather trim, though he may no longer be wearing a shirt.
He could be on foot or bicycle. Searchers have been unable to locate him thus far.
Anyone who sees Derek or has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Dispatch at 311 (Option #1).
