ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage Police are decorating their department for the holidays, but the tree will be left bare — hopefully.
During the month of December the Anchorage Police Department will hang one ribbon on the tree for each OUI charge filed.
According to APD, the numbers have steadily increased over the past few years. last year in 2018, there were 150 arrests for OUI. That number was 139 in 2017, and 130 in 2016.
In an effort to keep the tree ornament free, and the public safe, APD is encouraging the public to use alternate transportation during the holidays and reminding everyone not to drive drunk or high.
Anchorage Police will be updating the trees progress, or hopefully lack thereof, on their Instagram account.
