ASD Superintendent's welcome back to school message
It's the first day of school for students in the Anchorage School District. ASD Superintendent, Dr. Deena Bishop made time to stop by the Morning Edition for a welcome back message to all.
Dr. Bishop said the staff has undergone hours of training and other work to prepare for students. Maintenance and custodial staff have also spent countless hours cleaning, repairing and improving learning spaces for students.
If parents still have questions about registration, Dr. Bishop advised to check with your neighborhood school. As for what's new this year, Dr. Bishop was excited about extending college courses, expanding internships and the new French immersion program.
Her final message was to encourage students to get involved.
"We want our students to have fun while learning reach for the stars and have a great school year. Evidence and research suggest that participation in school activities and co-curricular clubs improve student performance, whether it be cross country or chess, reading or swimming, basketball or robotics, we encourage all kids and parents to get involved," said Dr. Bishop.
