Accident closes down Sterling Highway at mile 129 Wednesday evening
An accident closed down the Sterling Highway for about four hours beginning at about 8 p.m. Wednesday night when a Chevy Monte Carlo veered out of its lane into oncoming traffic and hit another car.
The driver of that vehicle, a 26-year-old woman from Soldotna, was reportedly uninjured after being checked out at a local hospital. She was driving a Toyota. Witnesses said they saw the car taking “evasive action into its own lane’s guardrail,” according to the State Troopers.
The unidentified male driver of the Monte Carlo was trapped in his car until he was cut free by the emergency medical services when they arrived at the scene of the accident from Anchor Point. He was flown to Anchorage for treatment.
The accident occurred at mile 129 of the Sterling Highway, located between Clam Gulch and Ninilchik.
The driver of the Monte Carlo has not yet been identified.
