(UPDATED) Creditors say they are owed millions by Humpy's owners, seek bankruptcy hearings
A group of creditors is seeking to begin bankruptcy proceedings against the owners of Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse.
Four groups claim the company that owns the iconic Anchorage bar and restaurant owes them a total of more than $2.7 million.
KTUU spoke this morning with an attorney for Hook Line and Sinker Inc., doing business as Humpy’s, who referred questions to the company’s four owners. A general manager for the bar also referred questions to owners, who could not immediately be reached for comment.
Humpy's General Manager Pete Burns said the bar and restaurant plan to remain open and are working with creditors in hopes of avoiding bankruptcy liquidation.
Burns, who also manages Flattop Pizza + Pool and Bootleggers 8 Star Saloon and consults on the Williwaw side of the business, provided this statement on behalf of the owners: “Humpy’s acknowledges recent public reports regarding pending legal issues brought on behalf of creditors associated with the Williwaw project. We are working internally to resolve these issues and wish the public to know that we are and plan on remaining open. Thank you for your continued support and we are actively negotiating an amicable, non-judicial resolution of the petition.”
At this stage the case is similar to a lawsuit, with three creditors filing a Dec. 5 petition in Anchorage bankruptcy court aimed at drawing Humpy’s into Chapter 7 proceedings. Those creditors, Collin Szymanski, Carl Brady Jr. and Arctic Refrigeration & AC Inc., claim they are owed more than $800,000.
They claim the company that owns Humpy’s “is generally not paying its debts as they become due.”
Another alleged creditor,
, claimed on Feb. 3 that the Humpy's owners owe it $1.9 million, according to the filings. The debt involves a series of promissory notes that Salamatof issued to the Humpy's owners in 2015, according to the filing.
City records show Salamatof, through a separate limited liability company,
that transformed the corner of 6th Avenue and F Street in 2015.
