ANCHORAGE, (KTUU)- On a windy Friday evening a chartered aircraft arrived in Anchorage with the remains of 19-year-old Private First Class Hansen Kirkpatrick.

The Wasilla resident and graduate of Service High School was killed in the Helman Province of Afghanistan on July 3, according to U.S. Army officials. They say the Taliban launched an indirect fire attack which sent a mortar or rocket into a building Kirkpatrick was in.

Kirkpatrick’s wife, father, mother and other immediate family members held their hands to their hearts as a casket draped in the nation’s flag was escorted from the plane to waiting hearse by six U.S. Soldiers.

A police escort to a funeral home included military veterans on motorcycles from the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

A burial service at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery is planned for some time next week. Kirkpatrick’s father asks that those interested in attending contact him through email
