ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A tribal police officer in a remote Alaska community outside of Bethel has been arrested for sexually abusing a minor.

According to Alaska State Troopers who made the arrest, Napakiak Tribal Police Officer William Smith, 22 of Napakiak, was arrested on Monday afternoon for second degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Troopers say the arrest took place following a separate investigation into an unrelated incident, during which the details of Smith's case were brought to light.

That case, troopers said, was also into Smith's conduct, but instead a claim of sexually assaulting a woman who was in his care at the police office..

"The separate incident is of TPO William Smith Sexually Assaulting a woman that was in his care for protective custody at the public safety office in Napakiak," AST wrote in a report.

The investigation into Smith is ongoing. Authorities say more charges against him are expected to follow. Check back for updates.
