ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A woman in Ketchikan was found dead Wednesday morning, floating in water and unresponsive. Authorities say it appears that she fell in.

Doretta Dowhitt, 66, of Ketchikan, was declared dead before 7:30 a.m. after a neighbor in the area found her at 6:30 a.m. that same morning.

According to Alaska State Troopers, the neighbor ran down the embankment leading to the water, pulling her out and attempting "live saving measures while calling for help."

Troopers reported that it appears as though Dowhitt fell into the water, and that "alcohol appears to be a factor" in that.

Troopers reported that Dowhitt's body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy. Her family has been notified.
