ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaskan artists are creating one-of-a-kind violins that will be auctioned off to benefit the Anchorage Youth Symphony.
Fifteen artists took a small stipend and created violins. They range from instruments with painted landscapes to a violin with hundreds of crystals.
One of the artists, Duke Russell, said that he can relate to the amount of work it can take to keep the lights on as an artist.
"Why is it a problem to fund these organizations?" Russell said. "Not just the orchestra. They should have the opportunity given that they've shown that they can do this."
The violins will be auctioned off at the Anchorage Youth Symphony's Concert at the Atwood Concert Hall on December 15.
