Alaskan inmates give dropped Iditarod dogs special TLC

EAGLE RIVER, Alaska (KTUU) — Inmates at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center are giving dropped Iditarod dogs special care.

For inmates at Hiland, caring for the dogs is a chance to connect with the outside world.

"Anything that bridges the gap between prison and society makes me feel relevant and significant," said Hiland inmate Sarah Hayes. "Just being a part of something that is so big out there in the world."
