ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaskans affected by the Nov. 30 earthquake will have extra time to enroll in health care insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced health insurance enrollment has been extended and will remain open through Jan. 29th for Alaskans living in the Municipality of Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna Borough or Kenai Peninsula Borough.
Jane Straight, United Way Lead Health Insurance Navigator, said the deadline for enrollment is usually Dec. 15th, but that Alaskans affected by the earthquake and requiring more time to enroll must call in to confirm their location.
"It lets people who were too busy cleaning from the earthquake - now have extra time to enroll," Straight said.
For assistance in enrolling, call United Way’s helpline at 211 or (800) 478-2221.
