ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Over the past months, the community-supported Alaska’s top-selling girl scout as she undertook a big project to send out 85 care packages to troops overseas.
Alaina Vik, a 13-year-old from Eagle River, sold 5,500 boxes of cookies this past season. Almost 800 of them were bought as donations for the troops.
"They are leaving their families and are going out fighting for our freedom, and they just really need to be appreciated," she said.
Toiletries, snacks, and of course, cookies will be shipped to soldiers overseas.
Vik received donations from community members and local businesses for supplies.
Accompanying the goodies are handwritten notes and a message from Vik.
“This is my way of saying thank you,” her note read. “You are amazing, appreciated and loved. Thank you for your service."
The project is a few months in the making. Vik’s living room is filled with cookie boxes and other supplies.
"It's a bit of a mess but it's fine, it's for a good cause," her mother, Amy Vik said.
And once these boxes ship out, this isn't the end for Alaina. She still has her largest girl scout project coming up in high school.
But she may need a bigger living room.
