ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Theatrical production ALAXSXA | ALASKA will begin its run in Anchorage Friday night at the Sydney Laurence Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
"I try to take people on a journey and I try to get people to think in terms of seeing 90 minutes of theater as if they were traveling to another world completely and I can guarantee you the way I do theater is very different than what you normally see," Ping Chong, co-director and co-creator said.
Performers Ryan Conarro, Gary Upay'aq Beaver, and puppeteer Justin Perkins make up the cast. The performance focuses on people, Alaska and their experiences within the state. "I think everything I've done in my work has been about getting people to see two sides to a story. This is definitely a show about encounters, about seeing both sides of the experience of being Alaskan," Chong said.
"One thing that I love about doing it here in Anchorage and other communities is that everyone has their own stories of cross-cultural encounter. If you're here, even if it's your first day in Alaska you have an 'I arrived in Alaska' story," Conarro said.
ALAXSXA | ALASKA will visit communities across the state including, Homer, Unalakleet, Stebbins and St. Michael.
