ANCHORAGE (KTUU)- The Anchorage School District released a color-coded list that shows the earthquake damage status of each of its schools and buildings.
According to the list, green determines staff is ready to begin the process of ensuring the site is prepared to receive and educate students. Yellow means damage, repair and cleaning are in process. Eagle River Elementary school is currently on the list as red and is seriously damaged and unsafe to occupy.
Twelve schools were labeled as "green," and 85 are "yellow," and need more work.
ASD canceled school for students until Monday, December 10.
Superintendent Deena Bishop made the decision to close all schools to allow staff and maintenance crews to continue recovery operations.
“We absolutely want our kids back in safe and functional classrooms, but I am going to do this in a safe and deliberate way,” a statement from Bishop said.
