ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - An Anchorage man is charged with 32 counts of aiding and assisting with preparing false income tax returns.

According to a news release from United States Attorney Bryan Schroder, 64-year-old Jose Luis Arenas of Anchorage was indicted on the charges.

According to the indictment, from 2013 to 2016 Arenas intentionally reported false itemized expenses to the IRS on behalf of his clients. Some of these included false medical and dental expenses that fraudulently reduced the amount of income tax owed, and inflated clients' refunds.

If convicted, Arenas faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
