ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - UPDATE, 2:00 ADT: The Anchorage Police Department is continuing investigations into two homicides early Sunday morning. Though authorities have not yet said if the deaths are related, APD officials "are investigating them as one scene."

Local residents said they heard half a dozen shots fired around 12 a.m.Sunday morning in the area near Anchorage's Valley of the Moon Park.

"A little after midnight last night, I was getting ready to sleep, and all of a sudden, I heard, 'Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,'" said Nathan Hemmer of Anchorage. "I was considering whether or not I should call (authorities), but then I heard some sirens. But I was a little concerned."

Police were called around 2 a.m. and arrived to one deceased male, the body of whom was discovered on a nearby bike path.

While combing the area for evidence, officers found the body of another deceased male.

Howdi Rambur of Anchorage Police Department Auxiliary Search Team said Sunday that the team was called out around 7:30 a.m. to look for evidence. The team is meant to help locate and render aid to lost or missing persons, as well as support APD in evidence searched, natural or man-made disasters, and other events.

"There's a large area to cover," Rambur said. "Everybody knows we don't have enough officers, and they do a good job searching in their own right, but we come back if they need us and really comb through the area."

There were around 10 searchers out Sunday to help aid in the homicide investigations. According to APD, no one is in custody yet.
