ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Authorities in Anchorage have announced the second homicide in the city this week, after a man died from his injuries Friday morning.

The man was found, lying in the street on the 3900 block of East 8th Avenue. He had been assaulted badly, and was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department.

The following day, he was pronounced dead from those injuries, but just what happened to him, and who he was, remain unknown.

Police did say, however, that several people have been detained for questioning in his death.

APD said they are working on notifying his family before they plan to release his name.

The death marks the second homicide investigation this week, after 45-year-old Michael Greco, head gardener at the Alaska Zoo, was found dead in the zoo parking lot.
