Student brings BB gun to Rogers Park Elementary
The Anchorage School District confirmed that a BB gun was found in the backpack of a student at Rogers Park Elementary.
According to an email sent to parents from the principal of the school, the incident occurred at the end of the day when one student noticed that something fell out of a backpack onto the classroom floor that looked like a gun.
The teacher notified the office immediately.
After staff investigated both with the student and his family, they decided that it was an unloaded plastic BB gun that had been accidentally left in the student's backpack after a home activity.
Then, in a second email on Wednesday evening, the principal wrote another email saying that continued investigation revealed that in fact the student was aware that the gun was in his backpack and had made statements to classmates "about bringing the BB gun to school and using it."
The student is not attending school until the investigation is complete.
