ANCHORAGE The Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is now requiring BP to plug and abandon more than a dozen wells at Prudhoe Bay, and review the rest.
According to KTOO, the decision comes after BP’s most recently discovered leak of about two gallons of oil in a well house, in December of 2018.
Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission records show the problems started in 2017 after a worse incident in a similar well prompted a review. That review found 14 at risk wells all of comparable design.
BP confirmed the well that was found leaking last month was one of the 14 at-risk wells.
Following the December incident, AOGCC requested a field-wide review of all of BP's oil wells at Prudhoe Bay.
