ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - One man died and another was taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries after they both lost control of their motorcycles while driving along a curved stretch of Alaska highway.
Thomas Clinton Salmon, 62, of Soldotna, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash. The other man, Jason Thomas McWilliams, 47, also of Soldotna, suffered "serious, life threatening injuries," Alaska State Troopers said in a report Wednesday.
According to AST, the two men were riding near milepost 115 of the Sterling Highway when they lost control. Both were driving 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycles, and went into a curved portion of the road together.
Both men reportedly lost control of their bikes, skidding off the road and crashing into a ditch. Salmon did not survive.
According to troopers, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing while McWilliams remains in a local hospital for his serious injuries.
