ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - For the first time since July 8, hikers and recreators will be allowed on the Resurrection Pass Trail.

After completing most of the work yesterday, managers say there is no possibility of the fire expanding.

In order for the blaze to have reached the trail, it would have had to jump over the low, relatively unflammable willows and alders to get across the mountains, something that fire managers said was unlikely. Still, they prepared the trail as a secondary containment line just in case.

The reopening also allows visitors to enter the West Swan Lake, Swan Lake, Romig, Juneau Lake, and Trout Lake cabins.
