ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Gov. Bill Sheffield released his memoir this year. He served as Alaska's fifth governor from 1982 to 1986.
The State of Alaska purchased the railroad from the federal government while he was governor.
Sheffield said: "We bought the Alaska Railroad from the federal government, which was a great purchase. Because the railroad was really a good thing for passengers all year long in Alaska. As well as hauling freight back and forth. Non-stop railroad tracks from Seward to Fairbanks."
