ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage School District crews are busy cleaning up and making repairs to an area of College Gate Elementary school after a fire damaged a classroom on Sunday.
Rob Holland, director of operations for the district, says workers are replacing some of the wall board, all of the cabinetry, all of the ceiling tiles, and that the flooring will be replaced and the walls will be painted. "This cleanup effort that we have going on here is what really amounts to is a remodel of this classroom," Holland said in an interview Wednesday.
Holland says they're working toward having the work complete before Monday, when students return to school after the winter break.
A district spokesperson says the repairs are estimated to cost about $50,000.
