ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) Officials are investigating the death of an inmate at Goose Creek Correctional Center Saturday.

According to a release from the Department of Corrections, the 60-year-old inmate pushed his call button to say he was having a hard time breathing shortly after 10 a.m.

The DOC says medical staff responded and attempted “life saving measures.”

About an hour later, the man was pronounced dead, the release said.
DOC said this is the second in custody death of 2017.

The man had been in jail a little more than a month. “He was remanded on probation violations and a driving while intoxicated charge,” the release states.

As per protocol, every prisoner death is reviewed by the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Alaska State Troopers.

An internal investigation is also expected to be performed by The Department's Professional Conduct Unit.
