Original story: Monday, 1:11 p.m.:
A body was discovered in the ditch of a Wasilla-area road early Monday morning, and now authorities are investigating who it was, and how they died.

According to Tim Despain with the Alaska State Troopers, a pedestrian was found in the ditch off Vine Road near W. Appalacian Avenue in Wasilla. The body was called in to troopers at 9:25 a.m.

The responding officer found the victim, who has not yet been named. Despain said in an email that it appears as though the victim was struck by a vehicle. A continuing investigation is underway to determine who the person was and how they got there.

The north-bound lane of Vine is blocked as of noon on Monday, and traffic is flowing through the one open lane, as troopers investigate the surrounding area and the ditch in which the victim's body was found.

More information will be released as the investigation develops, Despain said.
