ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — The death of a U.S. Army Alaska soldier based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is under investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.
Specialist Porfiro Gutierrez Jr., 24, was discovered dead in his barracks on Tuesday morning according to a release by the U.S. Army Alaska.
The statement by U.S. Army Alaska says no information regarding the circumstances of Spc. Gutierrez Jr.'s death will be released until the investigation is complete.
Gutierrez Jr. was a member of U.S. Army Alaska's 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion based out of JBER.
He has been assigned to U.S. Army Alaska since April, 2017.
Gutierrez Jr. previously served at Fort Hood, Texas for nearly four years after receiving advanced training at Fort Lee, Virginia and completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 2013 in Roseville, California.
