Things were feeling merry, bright and downright tropical at the Dimond Center today.

Organizers of Aloha Day say it's all about bringing a little bit of the islands to anchorage.

"Because we crave heat. Today we have Shawn Garnett from Hawaii 5-0, he's one of our headliners. We also have Augie T who's a comedian we have lots of music you can see going on, and some dance groups," said Brenda Steil, who works in marketing for the Dimond Center.

Brenda Stiel says there are a lot of people from the community who appreciate the event for its Hawaiian vendors, food and the celebration of a culture that's central to many local residents.

The Dimond Center also gave away two $500 Alaskan Air gift cards at the event.
