Dogs headed for Yulin Dog Meat festival find forever home in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU-TV) These dogs have escaped a certain death in China, and are now awaiting a forever home here in Alaska.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival has been the subject of controversy for many years now for the graphic abuse they put dogs through before eventually killing them

Chugiak's Kelly Walker has rescued 10 dogs, 5 are here now and 5 more will arrive in December.

Kelly says getting the dogs from overseas and into Alaska was an incredible moment.

Walker says, "Honestly the feeling that Jane and I had when we drove down to pick up the dogs for the first time, we were so filled with excitement but also scared out of our brains. Both of us have never done anything like this before and we actually pulled it off. Then we saw their little faces through the cage and it just broke my heart"

One has already been adopted but there are four more looking for homes just in time for the holidays.
