ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Taylor Caldwell is on his road to recovery after a moose attack in May left with broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a paused career.

Caldwell was attacked by a moose near her two calves while walking his dog Memphis on a trail near his home in Eagle River.

“When we turned the curb, I heard something in the bushes rattling around. I looked up, and the cow’s face was almost to mine,” Caldwell said.

He turned to run, but the moose started attacking him before he could getaway.

She began cutting him up with her hooves. Caldwell said the moose managed to pick him up and slam him to the ground.

Caldwell broke seven ribs, punctured a lung and hurt his hand.

He makes his living as a musician and for several months, he wasn’t able to make his usual gigs.

“It’s going to be a tough income tax year,” he said.

But after support from doctors, therapists, family, the musician community and his trusty pooch, he said that he is well on the road to recovery.

He still makes his daily walk with Memphis, even on the same trail where he was attacked.

“I’m doing better with support from the music community and my pooch,” he said.
