ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - UPDATE:
Police say a man walking his dog was attacked by a moose Friday afternoon. APD says the 911 call came in around 12:20 reporting that a person was trampled by a moose and injured in Eagle River.
Anchorage Police Department says the man got in between a cow moose and her calf. The moose responded in a defensive manner and the man sustained significant non-life-threatening injuries. The man was taken to a local hospital.
One person was injured in a moose attack in Eagle River near the intersection of Montague Loop and Andreanof Drive.
The Department of Fish and Game says there have been a number of incidents in the area because of the heavily wooded trail system.
The moose in question was not located in the initial sweep of the area and there is no word yet on the condition of the person that was injured. The Anchorage Police Department assisted with the initial call.
Neither police nor Fish and Game knew how badly the person was injured Friday afternoon.
A representative of Fish and Game says it is best to avoid narrow trails with dense vegetation this time of year as moose are calving and frequently bed down along trails.
