With early voting starting Monday, local groups seek to increase voter turnout numbers

ANCHORAGE (KTUU)- For Alaskans wanting to avoid polling locations for the statewide general election on Nov. 6, early voting kicks off on Monday, Oct. 22.

On the ballot are the governor and lieutenant governor positions, legislative seats, a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and a ballot measure about salmon habitat.

Evan Anderson, Civic Engagement Coordinator for The Alaska Center Education Fund, said that historically Fairview and Mountain View have lower voter turnout numbers.

"I think there is a lot of people in our county, and especially this community, that don't see how their voice makes a difference," Anderson said.

But starting Oct. 22 going through Nov. 5, absentee, early and in-person voting locations will be open from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.

Voters need to bring a valid form of identification for early voting.
